Effective case management has been recognized as a key “win-win” strategy in workers’ compensation for many years. Quality case management can drastically reduce total program costs, preventable lost time, and lost production days. There are things that the agency can do when barriers arise that delay or halt the process to case resolution. Attendees will learn how to establish professional rapport with the injured worker; how to communicate with the Claims Examiner/Nurse Case Manager; when to request a Second Opinion Exam, when to request an Agency Medical Exam; how to make a valid job offer; when/how to effectively correspond with the treating physician and the claimant; how to facilitate continuity of care; and how to identify the red flags indicative of possible fraud or malingering.
Learning Objectives:
- Summarize the steps to walk through a variety of case scenarios from beginning to resolution.
- Describe the issues and factors that are typical of what occurs during the process of case management.
- Identify strategies to address the most challenging and frequently occurring scenarios.
